Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) is a medical treatment that involves breathing pure oxygen in a pressurized chamber. The fundamental principle behind HBOT is to increase the amount of oxygen dissolved in the body’s tissues by increasing atmospheric pressure, thus enhancing the body’s natural healing processes.

  • Angiogenesis: HBOT stimulates the formation of new blood vessels. This process, known as angiogenesis, improves blood flow to areas with impaired circulation, aiding in the healing process.
  • Anti-inflammatory Effect: Hyperbaric oxygen can reduce inflammation, helping to decrease pain and swelling.
  • Enhanced Immune Response: The therapy can bolster the body’s immune system, making it more effective at fighting infection and bacteria.
  • Stimulation of Stem Cells: Recent research suggests that HBOT can encourage the mobilization of stem cells from the bone marrow to the bloodstream, where they can assist in repair processes throughout the body.

Like any medical procedure, HBOT can have risks associated with treatment. These will be discussed prior to treatment beginning with the Hyperbaric Physician during your initial assessment.

The biggest concern during treatment is the potential for claustrophobia. The chambers are 36 inches in diameter and transparent, however this can still result in experiencing claustrophia.

Treatment will vary from patient to patient, but the average treatment lasts for 40 dives, each dive lasting 2 hours. Additional treatment modalities may be paired with your HBOT treatments that may take additional time, but that will be discussed with you before treatments begin.

For your safety, nothing can be brought inside the chamber with you, aside from the cotton gown provided to you and the wristband that is attached to the chamber. Don’t worry, each chamber is equipped with an entertainment system, so you can watch your favorite shows and movies while inside. The perfect time to binge-watch that new show your friends have been telling you about!

You can bring anyone you’d like to the clinic, we’re happy to accomodate them in the seating area and we love to chat. Only patients and technicians may enter the hyperbaric room however, and the chambers can fit only one person at a time.

Each chamber is equipped with a two-way communication system your technician will be using to check in with you during treatment. You can pick up the phone anytime to let your technician know you’re experiencing an issue. The chamber itself is transparent and a technician will always be in the room to monitor your session.
